Hiking with sea views and mountain air

Discover Corsica on foot

Casa di Lumi is the perfect base for unforgettable hikes — through wild landscapes, along old mule tracks, past abandoned shepherd’s villages, with views of mountains and sea returning at every turn. Corsica is a hiking country that offers everything from the simple village loop to multi-day high-mountain treks.

Lumio — village walk

A stroll through the historic village of Lumio is like a journey into the past: narrow, cobbled lanes wind their way between natural-stone houses, olive trees and small squares. From the edges of the village, views over the gulf of Calvi open up again and again.

  • Difficulty: very easy
  • Duration: about 30 minutes without stops, longer if you linger
  • Highlight: the sunset over the bay

Notre-Dame de la Serra

About 5 km from Casa di Lumi awaits a rewarding day trip to the chapel of Notre-Dame de la Serra. The path leads first through maquis and forest, then more steeply up onto a rocky ridge — at the top, a 360° panorama of Calvi, the Mediterranean and the Cinto massif rewards the climb.

  • Difficulty: moderate (short, steep sections over rocky ground)
  • Duration: about 1 hour up, slightly less back
  • Highlight: the 360° panorama from the summit
  • Sturdy footwear recommended

Calanches & Monte Cinto

For ambitious hikers, day tours into the spectacular Calanches de Piana (red rock landscape on the west coast, UNESCO world heritage) and to Monte Cinto — at 2,706 m the highest mountain in Corsica — are well worth it.

  • Difficulty: challenging, full day
  • Preparation required: map, water, sun protection, early start
  • Both tours deserve their own day — not spontaneous, but unforgettable

What to take with you

  • Sturdy footwear (even on short tours — the maquis is rocky)
  • Plenty of water (at least 1.5 l per person for day tours)
  • Sunscreen, hat, sunglasses
  • Map or GPS tracks (Komoot, Outdooractive work well in Balagne)
  • In summer: start as early as possible, avoid the midday heat
